It’s December now! Which means it’s now time for all of the festive holiday baking! This year, I thought that I would try some new things instead of the same old cut outs and red and green m n’ m cookies. During one of my many hours of browsing through Pinterest, I came across these adorable cookies that caught my eye. They are the sugar cookie version of the ever famous Hershey peanut butter blossom cookies. Not many people have the patience for baking things that require extreme detail and a lot of time so, of course, I wanted something easy and budget friendly . This recipe hit all of those marks.
What you’ll need :
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Red and Green sprinkles
2 mixing bowls
First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. While preheating, remove the wrappers from the candies (recipe makes approx 30 cookies).
In one mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar, vanilla and eggs until all blended together. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt and baking soda. Combine the ingredients into one bowl while adding milk. Blend until thoroughly mixed.
Shape the dough into approximately one inch balls (mine were all different sizes.) Pour the red and green sprinkles into two separate bowls.
Roll the dough balls in whichever color desired sprinkles and place onto your non stick cookie sheet.
Place the cookies into the oven and bake approximately 10-12 minutes until the edges are a golden brown. Remove cookies from the oven and cool for 2-3 minutes. Don’t be like me and get all excited to put the kisses in the cookies and do so without cooling, the kisses WILL melt. Oops! After cookies are cooled, press a candy piece into the center of each cookie. Let the cookies cool and voila! Enjoy!
Like almost all of my favorite recipes, this one can also have variety to it. You can add in a few drops of peppermint extract, some crushed pecans, or almond extract flavoring! These are guaranteed to be a hit at your holiday party.
